Berlin Seeds recalled alfalfa sprouting seed because it may be contaminated with Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) and/or Salmonella. The affected product was sold through Berlin Seeds’ Millersburg, Ohio, retail store and website from February 13, 2026, through August 23, 2026, in the listed U.S. states. Stop using it, do not sprout, plant, or give it away, discard it in a sealed bag, clean and sanitize anything it contacted, and contact Berlin Seeds to ask about arranging a replacement.
Check whether your Berlin Seeds product is affected
The recall covers Berlin Seeds alfalfa sprouting seed sold at the company’s retail store in Millersburg, Ohio, and through its website from February 13, 2026, through August 23, 2026. The product was sold to customers in Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin, West Virginia, and Wyoming.
Affected package sizes are 1/4 pound, 1/2 pound, 1 pound, 5 pounds, and 50 pounds. The 5-pound and 50-pound packages have lot code SAL2-24JB in the bottom right-hand corner of the label. The 1/4-pound, 1/2-pound, and 1-pound packages do not have a lot code; the absence of a lot code does not establish that those smaller packages are safe. The FDA notice says no other Berlin Seeds sprouting seeds, including other Berlin Seeds alfalfa sprouting seed, are affected by this recall.
What to do with the seed and any sprouts
If you believe you purchased the affected seed, stop using it immediately. Do not sprout it, plant it, or give it away. Do not eat sprouts already grown from the recalled seed; throw them away. Put the recalled seed in the trash in a sealed bag.
Clean equipment and surfaces
Carefully clean and sanitize jars, trays, sprouters, and surfaces that the recalled seed or sprouts may have touched.

The notice also lists orders@berlinseeds.life. The recall notice provides contact information for arranging a replacement but does not specify replacement eligibility, replacement format, or refund terms.
If someone feels ill after eating the sprouts
Anyone who ate the recalled product and feels ill should contact a health care provider. The FDA notice states that one illness had been reported directly to Berlin Seeds in connection with this seed.
